Testimonials

Alison Grant Architects worked with us to undertake major restructuring of our barn conversion. Alison designed a fantastic new interior layout, which made the most of the views from our rural location, maximised the internal space and provided us with the rooms we need for life, work and relaxation in our home. Alison was involved from first discussions, through several iterations of drawings until we finalised the layout, she managed submission and liaison with the council for all planning and building regulations, prepared clear specification and bid documents, and supported us in selecting and subsequently managing the contractors. We are very happy with the quality of Alison’s work throughout all stages, and the support, flexibility and advice she was always willing to give at short notice. We were impressed with her prompt and helpful communication, she was also extremely knowledgeable and professional throughout the design and implementation of the work. Alison helped us realise our vision, and she always did it with a smile. We would recommend Alison to anyone considering undertaking substantial restructuring work on their home.N&H I’Anson, Colden [Internal alterations & loft conversion to former barn]

I could not be happier with Alison’s services as my architect. I have done several renovation & new build projects and my project with Alison was the most trouble-free. We did a major renovation of a listed cottage which involved structural reinforcement, changing of floor heights, an extension, new heating, plumbing and electrical systems. From Planning Permission stage to the last completion items, Alison was responsive, conscientious and detail-oriented. Alison also recommended the builder with whom I was very satisfied with. I felt the project was with a very safe set of hands. The finished house is absolutely lovely and a joy to live in.RW, Hebden Bridge [Renovation, alterations & extension to grade 2 listed dwelling]

I am very happy to recommend Alison. She was proactive about making useful suggestions, without being pushy. She was extremely patient with us as we were making decisions and understood that sometimes it was difficult and we needed time to let the options sink in. She also understood that it was our home and appreciated how important every decision was. When we wanted her advice, Alison gave it clearly and in a non-technical and understandable way. She was efficient and timely in all the work she did for us. She has dealt extremely well with the builders and trades people, and has acted as a go-between when necessary. he has kept on top of all the work and updated us regularly. Alison is really good to work with, she has great ideas and a lovely manner. I would have no hesitation in working with her again in the future if the opportunity arises.A Harrison, Mytholmroyd [Alterations & renovation of Victorian terrace]

“We appointed Alison Grant as our architect on the basis of a recommendation from a friend. We were looking at building an extension and porch and already had ideas as to how this might look. Alison picked up immediately what we were trying to do whilst also scoping out alternatives before we committed to the final plans. We found her to be extremely knowledgeable, innovative, professional and with incredible attention to detail. As well as drawing up detailed plans, Alison handled the planning process and engaging the building contractors, accompanying any third parties whenever site visits were necessary. She was available throughout the process for advice and support which we found enormously reassuring. What had potential to be a trying period for us actually went incredibly smoothy thanks to Alison’s high work standards. We would have no hesitation recommending Alison Grant for other architecture and building projects.” Mr & Mrs Bourne, Hebden Bridge [extension and porch to existing dwelling]

“As a journalist who writes about interiors, I had heard many a horror story about architects, so when it came to finding someone for our own kitchen build project, Alison was like a breath of fresh air. She is extremely knowledgeable in her field and informative without being domineering. During the process, she gave us access to plenty of new and useful suppliers, but above all was responsible for putting us in touch with an excellent building team, who came in on budget and on time. She co-ordinated the build and her attention to detail throughout was very impressive. In short, I would have no hesitation in recommending her for any building project – large or small.” B&C Harrison, Colden [Kitchen extension to historic property]

“We have been absolutely delighted with Alison’s work. Initially she was able to translate our requirements into a practical and high quality solution for an extension housing a wet room in a confined space through the clever and innovative use of overlapping doors to create extra space with many interesting features, which has generated much admiration. Her very detailed drawings and specification left nothing to chance and were highly appreciated by the builder, both for the purposes of preparing a tender and subsequently to base construction on. Throughout the build she has kept us informed of progress and liaised on our behalf with the builders and neighbours. Lastly, she has been easy and a pleasure to work with, is patient and receptive, and has a good sense of humour! Maria and Graham Heafford, Hebden Bridge [Extension to mid-terrace dwelling]

“Alison, Everything first class, many thanks!” M&J M [Accessible bathroom extension to existing house]

“I am disabled and a wheelchair user with very little functioning. Having lived in a 2 storey house for 20 years mainly in my bedroom, my dream has been to live on one level in a more wheelchair-friendly space. This became possible last year when I found The Barn. It needed a huge amount of work doing on it… both to adapt and alter it to meet my needs and to refurbish and modernise it. Given my limited functioning this seemed very daunting to me until I met Alison and decided that I could manage it all with her help. Alison has been brilliant… drawing up plans, coming up with ideas, applying for planning and buildling regs permission, dealing with the builders and overseeing the work. Alison is very efficient, organised and creative. She communicates very well and always kept me informed and up to date. I found her easy to work alongside as she was very sensitive to my needs and limited abilities. Now the work is complete and I am living my dream with greatly improved quality of life and more independence… it’s a fantastic place to live and I could not have achieved this without Alison’s help.. thanks to her!” Judy Davies, Slack [Renovation, extension & adaptation of existing dwelling]

“I have been so impressed by Alison’s creativity and problem solving abilities, which have been matched with her precise attention to detail. It was thanks to her excellent plans that we were allowed to build in a highly protected conservation area and the resulting building fits beautifully in the space. Excellent work.”  Mandi Paramor, Heptonstall [New-build annexe to grade 2 listed dwelling in conservation area]

“Alison was sensitive to what we wanted, as well as being efficient and entirely professional. I’d have no hesitation in recommending her for any job – large or small.” R Connor [Alterations to listed building]

“Alison listened carefully to what we wanted and added some great ideas of her own. One of Alison’s suggestions was to use the roof of our existing outbuildings to form a garden terrace – this has worked wonderfully and we now have a south-facing terrace which we can access via new doors from our first floor living room – it’s great! Alison’s detailed drawings and applications steered us smoothly through the planning and listed building process and she also helped us find a reputable builder who was skilled in working with older listed buildings. We now have a lovely home and wouldn’t change anything!”  Anne Lodge & David Dunne, Heptonstall [Renovation & alterations to grade 2 listed dwelling]
